STOCKTON YOUNG GUNS MAIN GOES TO WALMER
PORTLAND,
OREGON (June 21, 2010)
–
14 year-old Keegan Walmer picked up the feature win in the USAC
Young Guns on Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway in
Stockton, Calif., taking the lead from teammate Brandon White on
lap 21.
Walmer won
the previous USAC Young Guns race at Stockton back on May 1st.
The Portland, Oregon based driver races for Ron Sutton’s
Winner’s Circle in both the USAC NorCal Young Guns and USAC
NorCal Ford Focus Midget Series.
Young Gun
activities on the quarter-mile asphalt oval began with Walmer
finishing third in the division’s eight lap heat race.
Walmer
started on the pole for the trophy dash and led all four laps
for the win.
In the
main event, Walmer went to work from fifth and was up to third
by lap nine.
Walmer and
teammates Courtney Atkinson and Cody Thompson went
back-and-forth for several laps before Walmer broke through for
second on lap 18.
It only
took Walmer three laps to reel in teammate Brandon White and
take over the lead. His lead grew to half a second at the
finish of the 25 lap feature.
For the
NorCal Ford Focus portion of the night, Walmer qualified fifth
with a time of 13.919 seconds. Walmer finished third in his
heat race and lined up sixth for the main.
In the
feature, Walmer took over fifth on lap three and fourth on lap
21, where he ultimately finished in the 30 lap contest.
The
impressive runs for the youngster placed his second in the USAC
NorCal Young Guns standings and an extremely impressive third in
the USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget Series standings.
“Race
after race, Keegan is consistently a threat to win,” driver
coach Ron Sutton said. “He adapts very well to the wide-variety
of tracks we compete at and has poise beyond his years!”
Keegan
Walmer will return to action on July 3 at Orange Show Speedway
in San Bernardino, Calif. for a USAC SoCal / NorCal combination
event.
