WALMER
CONTINUES USAC YOUNG GUNS MIDGET DOMINATION WITH SIXTH WIN
PORTLAND,
OREGON (October 13, 2010) – 15 year-old Keegan Walmer continued his dominance over the 2010 USAC
Young Guns Midgets by winning the feature at Orange Show
Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif.
Walmer has
accumulated six USAC Young Guns victories to go along with a
victory in the USAC Ford Focus Midget Series. Between the two
series Walmer has also put together four pole positions.
He is a
sophomore member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle program, a
NASCAR focused driver development program based in Sacramento,
Calif.
Walmer
qualified the Reser’s Fine Foods-sponsored Midget second fastest
with a time of 13.569 seconds around the tricky quarter-mile
bullring.
In one of the
most entertaining main events of the 2010 season, Walmer went
toe-to-toe with teammates Austin Farley and Jessica Clark.
Maintaining a top-three position throughout the race, Walmer
finally made a stunning move for the lead on the final lap.
Walmer topped
Farley by just .067 seconds in a photo finish at the stripe.
USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midgets also competed on Saturday night
at Orange Show, with Walmer running a 13.221 second lap for a
third best effort.
Competing
against a busy field of NorCal and SoCal that totaled 16 cars,
Walmer ran strong in the tightly wound lead pack.
Before
falling as low as fourth, Walmer maintained second for much of
the second half of the race before being passed on the 40th
and final lap.
The third
place finish keeps Walmer solidly in fourth place in the hotly
contested USAC NorCal Ford Focus Midget Series with two races
left to go.
“Keegan is
driving like a seasoned champion this year,” driver coach Ron
Sutton said. “Keegan led only one lap on Saturday but it was
the most important lap!”
Walmer has
two races left on his 2010 campaign; the USAC Ford Focus Midget
Nationals at the Las Vegas Bullring on November 6 and the Turkey
Night Grand Prix on November 25. Both are tracks where Walmer
has excelled and both races should include a strong contingent
of drivers from across the country.
